Studies show color is an effective tool to improve reading performance in young readers. Increasing the ability to encode, store, and retrieve information. Studies suggest that color codes should be tailored to specific reading or spelling rules for use in reading programs for struggling readers.

Many kids with Dyslexia in early elementary school rely on picture books to context guess and memorize words. Learning to read words by sounding out and blending (decoding) requires help to retrain the brain.
This recommended step by steep approach combined with the color-coding throughout will help to avoid that fight or flight response. The student will know the sound by using the color and resulting in less stress for struggling readers.
